Andrew Clarke Fenselau

October 17th, 1970 - June 21st, 2025

Dear all,

On June 21st, our family, friends, and community lost our dearly loved Andy Fenselau to an unexpected heart attack. Andy was on the beach in Monterey, one of his favorite places in the world. Most likely, his heart was weakened by his radiation treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma 24 years ago. We are heartbroken and still in disbelief - we will miss Andy forever.

Friends have set up a Caring Bridge to share about Andy and we would especially appreciate stories and photos for Nick, Rebecca, and Sam to read as they get older.

A memorial service is planned for August 3rd in Maryland (Join or Zoom) and a Celebration of Life is in the works for Spring 2026 in the Bay Area.

Meet Andy’s Family

Donate to a cause.

  • Caring for Cambodia

Andy was the Vice-Chairman on the board for Caring for Cambodia, but more importantly, Andy’s commitment to Cambodia is personal and deep: his oldest son was adopted from Cambodia. Over the years they have gone back several times to honor his birth country and contribute to communities in the rural Aural District and Phnom Penh. Andy’s work has focused on primary/secondary education, and university and entrepreneurial success for hundreds of youth in Cambodia’s new generation.

  • Grassroots Ecology

Andy was a board member for Grassroots Ecology, which allowed him to advocate and protect local habitats. Andy's commitment to environmental protection stemmed from a profound belief in the intrinsic value of nature and a deep concern for the planet's future. He enjoyed being in nature more than anything, especially with his family. Andy’s youngest, Sam, now carries the torch as he weeds his way through Grassroots Ecology’s summer internship program.

  • Acterra: Action For A Healthy Planet

Andy was a founding board member of Acterra, Action for a Healthy Planet.  Not only did he serve early on as the board chair for three years during its crucial period of solidification, but he was instrumental in driving the effort for strategic planning which kept the organization focused on its mission of education and action.  Andy was a strong advocate for the power of being in nature, and when Acterra’s stewardship program split off to become Grassroots Ecology, he followed suit.  His passion for making the world a better place was an inspiration to all of the Acterra family and will live on long into the future.
